Chefs at the Polash have come up with the Polash Meltdown – a dish so fiery it measures over ONE MILLION on the renowned Scoville Heat Units (SHU) scale which rates the hotness or piquancy of chilli peppers. The Polash Meltdown includes a whole variety of the most potent spices and chillies from across the globe, including the Birdseye Chilli (100,000 SHU), the legendary Naga chilli (so potent it has be handled with gloves and registers over 900,000 SHU) and the frankly terrifying Bhut Jolokia, which has recently become recognised officially as the world’s hottest chilli by measuring in excess of an incredible 1,000,000 SHU, on its own!! The dish will be available for just one week only (8 – 14 June 2009) to mark the Polash’s birthday celebrations. Anybody attempting to taste the ‘fires of hell on a fork’ must sign a disclaimer first. If they successfully eat the whole dish, they will receive a commemorative certificate, photo, T-shirt (‘I Ate the Polash Meltdown and Survived’) - and the respect of every man and woman in the room.
